We started with a lovely picnic on the Esplanade watching the sailboats, had dinner at Cuchi Cuchi (I recommend the Strawberry Basil Cocktail) and later had burgers and a malt at Bartleys where we had our first meal/conversation together. The second half of the weekend was rainy and cold, so we checked out Iron Man 2 and W tried a popover recipe (delicious!) Would you like to see some pictures?

Toes, Sunshine and Sailboats
I know I've been a bit absent lately, but time just seems to fly by and the internet has been a bit (ahem) difficult lately. So what have you missed? W and I spent last weekend in Boston celebrating one year of knowing/dating each other.

Happy Friday!
Today is moving day! W is here to help, and I've hired two guys and a truck, so hopefully it will all go smoothly. The building I'm leaving has an elevator, but we're moving into the top floor of a walk up with a narrow stairwell, so that will probably be the the tricky part.
My parents are coming up Saturday, so they'll help with the cleaning and unpacking, and get to see the new place. (Hopefully we'll take a quick break to try the cookies at Ruby et Violette!) W will be moving his things down in a few weeks, and officially moving in June 1st.
This week I've been alternately thinking of furniture and exotic vacations. Rustic farmhouse style tables, contrasted with industrial metal benches and designer chairs. Then it's on to dreaming of lying in the shade of a Tuscan villa, or climbing through South American jungles. Something about being surrounded by boxes and bubble wrap makes my imagination wander. I wouldn't mind a few hours stretched out on this bench with a glass of sangria, and a beautiful maze of hedges stretching out behind me...
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday!
It's been a whirlwind of a week, and next week promises to be even more so. This weekend is dedicated to packing up my apartment though we're going to make time for dinner with friends and hopefully a little stroll through the Brooklyn Botanical Garden before all the cherry blossoms fall from the trees.
I've been drawn to images of hair blowing in the wind recently, perhaps another expression of the chaos that has been going on lately.

Birthday Weekend
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
As with every NYC parade, the sound of bagpipes is filtering through my office this morning. It's a blessing and a curse to be close to fifth avenue on parade days!
It's been a bit of a slow, under the weather, week for me. W and I spent the rainy weekend in CT celebrating my dad's birthday. We helped assemble a (complicated) German Forest Cake, and then had a special dinner of cheese and beef fondue. Of course, the birthday boy was is in charge of lighting the fondue. My father is well known for wreaking havoc when allowed to play with fire. Happy Birthday Dad!
I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the extra daylight!

Photo Friday
Happy Friday! I've decided to start Photo Fridays- a photo or two every Friday just for fun. It could be a quirky candid, or a sexy fashionista shot. Anything goes!
W and I are heading up to CT early tomorrow to celebrate my father's birthday. I'm excited for fondue and German Forest Cake! What are you up to this weekend?

Doesn't this woman look like she just walked out of the Country Buffet and landed in MOMA?

Underwater
I hope you all had a lovely, restful weekend! W stayed up in Boston to kick the sniffles so I had a few quiet days to myself. The sunshine made it the perfect lazy weekend to hit up the greenmarket, enjoy a smoothie outside Tea Lounge, and catch up with some girlfriends over brunch.
Check out these images of surfers by Wayne Levin, discovered via Lost. I love the contrast of energy and motion with the dark, silent world of beneath the water.

Vermont Weekend
Saturday morning W and I woke up to a white wonderland in Vermont. Friday night it was wet and muddy, but by the morning the trees were heavy with thick snow that had come silently during the night. The sky was a solid white, with the sun gradually burning through. It snowed most of the day, moving between flat grey skies, and magical sparkling sunlight.

Just Plane Crazy
It's snowing big cotton ball flakes here. Very pretty, very messy. I'm heading up to Boston tonight on my way to Vermont. We'll be spending a quiet weekend with friends, hopefully doing some skiing, hiking, and general playing around in the snow. We had planned to spend Thanksgiving up there, but W and I both ended up with colds, and didn't want to infect their little ones. I'm looking forward to getting out of the rainy city and away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a few days.
While we aren't off on a big fancy getaway, (I'll be hauling my ski boots onto the Chinatwon bus) it's fun to look at all the crazy places out there. Like this airplane turned hotel in Costa Rica. I can't decide if staying here would be uber cool, or just creepy. It's a bit Space Camp meets Lost. If you missed that 80s gem, please, put it on your list. That movie inspired generations of astronauts, as well as those, like me, who waited until Junior year of college to look up the pre-reqs for working at NASA. (and no, they don't hire art majors).
Wishing you all a relaxing and fun filled weekend, I'll be back in town Tuesday!

The Weekend
We finally got some sunshine this weekend, the light was beautiful. We got our '60s groove on for a Mad Men themed party (I still haven't seen the show!), took a ride through Central Park, lingered over brunch, and watched the New Years Parade in Chinatown. It'll be a short week here at Peanut Butter and Poetry as I'm heading up to Boston Thursday night en route to a long weekend in Vermont. I hope your week is off to a great start!

Happy Friday!
I hope you all have lovely weekend, and thanks for visiting Peanut Butter and Poetry this week! It's been a very long and stressful week for me, as my dad spent the better part of the week in the hospital. He's home now, and I'm ready to let my hair down, scream from the rooftops and enjoy the weekend!

Giant Robot
Saturday was an icy, rainy, almost snowy mess. But we ventured out anyway- our first stop was the opening reception for Paths Less Traveled at Giant Robot. This show features Julia Rothman, Allison Cole, Daria Tessler, and Jing Wei. My favorite piece was Julia's painting of brightly colored rotary phones. My parents have a multi-line phone in their kitchen, but my mom still keeps the old rotary dial phone plugged in next to it. I gave her this print by Emily Martin one Christmas to celebrate her love of archaic technology. The show is up until January 13th, go check it out!
Both images here are by Julia Rothman. Julia is a partner in the design firm Also- you've probably seen their work, their projects range from super cool Rock and Roll kids bedding for The Land of Nod, to the website design for Design*Sponge. Julia is not only talented, but also very sweet, and so easy to work with. I recently commissioned some work from her, and she not only accommodated my crazy rush schedule, but her work was right on target.
After Giant Robot W and I met friends at Jadis, a LES wine bar. We had a cozy evening with some good food, and several bottles of red wine. I was particularly fond of the mushroom truffle risotto puffs. Yum. It ended up being a pretty late night, so Sunday was all about afternoon naps and window shopping around the neighborhood. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

A Brooklyn Weekend
We spent Saturday in Red Hook, where I finally got to try the goodies at Baked. They are known for their Red Velvet Cupcakes, so of course we had to try one. The buttercream frosting was delicious, but we were both bigger fans of the Coffee Crisp Bar. Yum. I got my sugar fix, and W got to relax with a cup of coffee and an architecture magazine.
Sunday morning we met friends in Fort Greene to cheer on the runners in the NYC Marathon. When I think of the marathon I picture the elite runners at the front of the pack, but we had a great time cheering on all the everyday folks in the race. There was a large international contingent, and quite a few costumes. Most of all we clapped our hands raw and yelled out encouragement to whatever names were crawled across the nearest t-shirts. We followed up the marathon with brunch at Beast. The food is tasty, the wait is short, and there is always an old black and white movie playing above the bar.
Fall is quickly slipping into winter. My thoughts are turning to the holidays, to cold hands on hot mugs of tea, to hot baths that smell like lavender, to wool socks, and to cozy evenings at home.

Bits of Fall
It rained on Saturday, making it a perfect day to curl up for an afternoon nap. Sunday brought clear skies, sunshine, and just enough wind to turn the tip of your nose cold if you stayed out too long. The soft summer light is gone, replaced by winter's harsher angles. Everything seems a little dramatic, filled with deep shadows and brilliant highlights. It's past the peak of leaf season, but many leaves still hang on, dotting the hills with amber and yellow.

To the Country
Happy Friday! This evening I'm hopping a MetroNorth train up to my hometown in CT. I'll be waiting in line at the DMV Saturday morning, then celebrating my birthday with my parents that evening. I leave you with one last image of Seattle, and wish you all a relaxing weekend full of sunny skies!
